Student of the Month Story
In March of 2018, Katie Johnson won Bowie Student of the Month, a highly esteemed award gifted by the staff here at Bowie. Katie's hard working attitude and hours of studying are what lead her to receiving this award.
However, a deeper look into Katie's habits give us all the reasons for her winning this award.
"I try to do homework in school so I have a lot of free time outside of school," freshman Katie Johnson said. Katie enjoys a few of her core classes and works hard in them so that she's able to focus on her favorite part of school, getting to see her friends.
"I enjoy some core classes but not all of them," Katie said. Katie has all straight A's and she takes all Pre-AP classes, her favorite being her math class with Algebra 1 teacher, Michael Warner.
"She's delightful student to have and she's always helping those who are struggling around her," Warner said. Math has always come to easy to Katie, and she's been on the 1st Honor Roll at her old middle school for all three years.
"Katie was always a great student, always working hard and striving for the best possible grades," Assistant Principal of Gorzicki Middle School Whiney Black said. Katie prides herself on her grades, and looks up to her sister because of her sister's high GPA and grades as well.
" I want to go to collage and start a career," Johnson said. She doesn't know yet what she wants to do for a career, but she knows for sure that the next step after high school is collage.
"Everyone in the family has gone to UT Austin, but I don't think that's what Katie is going to go after," her mother, Kathy Johnson said. Katie's out of school activities parallel with her in school activities.
"I take dance outside of school," Said Katie. She takes Dance as an extracurricular class in school also, alongside with another type of dance class, Cheer.
" I don't plan on taking any required class credits outside of school," said Katie. Courses with required graduation credits are offered through language classes and health classes at ACC, a popular option for students looking to get their required credits out of the way.
" I don't really know what I want to do when I'm older for a career," said Katie. Katie, despite her high achievements, isn't sure as to what her future holds for her.
