Huntington story
On Wednesday at ten pm, 53 year old Janice Jones was accidentally shot in the leg by a handgun. She was eating dinner in her mobile home in Barstow, California when her gun was knocked over, causing it to discharge.
The circumstances of how the gun went off are what make this a truly bizarre accident.
Tombo, Jones's Pomeranian jumped from a chair, knocking over her 9mm handgun, causing it to fall to the floor and discharge upon impact.
"The bullet went through Jones's leg and through the side of the vehicle," said Rye. However, the bullet nearly hit the gas tank, which could have turned a bad situation worse.
"Jones was transported to Huntington Beach hospital by ambulance and was later transported to Irvine Medical Center," Said Rye. While Jones was hospitalized, the police found multiple law violations at her home.
"It could have done with a little less abuse and a few more of those pork chops," said California Highway Patrol press liaison Tammy Rye. Tombo was found malnourished and with multiple cigarette burns on his head, prompting animal abuse charges to be filed against Jones.
"Jones doesn't have a permit for the gun," said Rye. Along with the lack of a permit for the handgun, an instance being investigated by the district attorney's office, Jones has been cited for expired plates.
