Great Black and White Photographers

Imogene Cunningham- Succulent Harry Callahan- Eleanor Lee Friedlander -Lafayette, Louisiana   I really liked these images because of the contrast of soft and stark, the curves and the lines. The soft curves of the humans and their shadows and the straight lines of the wood in the pole and window contrast well. I liked the top picture, the succulent, because of the sharpness, with every crease shadow and line defined.  What I liked about the middle photo though was the lack of definition and the fuzzy edges which gave it a soft and light tone.

HDR Preview

1. What manipulations to the camera will you need to make to create an HDR image? You need to take several pictures both above and below the correct exposure. 2. What equipment will we use to take this type of image? We will be using a tripod and a DSLR camera 3. What is the reason someone might take an HDR image? So that we can accurately capture the lights and darks in an image, making it similar to what the eye can see. 4. What can we expect to happen with the images once we merge them together, what will we see that we might not have seen with just one photo? We will see the different levels of light and dark, being able to make out things that we wouldn't have been able to with just a singular picture.

1. Where is one place on the internet you might go to better prepare yourself for the location you are shooting at? Google Maps to scout out the location. 2. What is one app you might download to help you when trying to pick the best angle to take landscape photos? Photographer's Ephemeris 3. What is the biggest problem shooting with a zoom or telephoto lens? A wide-angle lens often distorts at least part of all panoramas, making the sequence harder to stitch together. 4. Instead of using the HDR method you learned in my class, what is another technique the website suggest would be acceptable for compensating for sky and ground? Raw processing software sich as Lightroom 6, which can help reclaim highlights and shadows. 5. List three things you should always carry in case of bad weather.
