Africa - Nick Brandt

.) I really like Nick Brandt's perspective on taking pictures on the African savannah, where he wants to include the sky and the land instead of just focusing on the animal. I was unnerved when he mentioned not taking pictures for weeks at a time because that would stress me out since I would feel really unproductive. I really liked how calm his photos were, and how they're really strong yet quiet.

.) What I really liked about this picture was that it looks like a regular bird just sitting on a lake, and thats what I though it was until I clicked on the image. I was't ready for the fascinating disgust I would feel, and that's what inclined me to choose this picture.
.) A rule of composition that I found was balance, since the reflection of the flaming balances out the photo.
.) Nick uses a Pentax 67 with a modified lens which creates a soft focus effect.
.) His reason for taking these photos is so that he can capture the simplicity of these animas in their natural state of being.
.) He hopes by taking these types of photos he can draw awareness to the approaching extinction of these magnificent creatures.
.) "There is also something deeply, emotionally stirring and affecting about the plains of Africa—those vast, green rolling plains punctuated by graphically perfect acacia trees under the huge skies."- Nick Brandt
